CFUW St. John’s meets the second Tuesday of the month at 7:30 p.m. in Room 4065 of the Alexander Murray Building at MUN. Exceptions are our annual Open House in September and the December and June dinner meetings. There are no meetings in July or August.
Most meetings include a guest speaker or panel who provides information on topics of current interest, a short business meeting and refreshments. Our February meeting is devoted to national issues and resolutions and the business portion of our May meeting is devoted to financial issues. General Meetings are open to interested members of the Public. Visitors and prospective members are always welcome!
Our next meeting is scheduled for February 17, 2026 at 7:30pm NL time (6:00 pm Eastern) via Zoom.
Our February meeting will feature Dr. Elise Thorburn, an emergency physician and community organizer. Dr. Thorburn will talk about her life-changing month as a volunteer working in a hospital in war-torn Gaza, where she witnessed both utter devastation and incredible courage. She was working with Glia, a medical solidarity organization that partnered with the World Health Organization to send medical delegations into Gaza. Elise graduated from Medical School at Memorial University in 2022 and received her Family Medicine Certification from the College of Family Physicians of Canada in 2024. She is currently working as an emergency physician in Newfoundland & Labrador, N.W.T and Nunavut.

Location and Directions: The Alexander Murray Building of Memorial University (The Earth Sciences Building), Room 4065. There is free parking in the lower-level parking garage below the building. The Earth Science Building is on the North Side of the Prince Phillip Parkway, across from the Engineering Building. To access the free parking, drive through the very short lane between the Earth Science Building and the University (Student) Centre to the parking entrance on your left. This is parking level 2. When parked, take the elevator to the 4th Floor. Upon leaving the elevator, walk past the railed open space (that looks to the floor below) toward the green sign “Department of Earth Sciences”. Room 4065 is on the left, just past the departmental general office.
